Come learn to express the joy of creating, shaping, and making enclosed, elegant vessels using the lathe, and how this also translates to the development of finesse, greater technique, and skill building with a diverse range of woodturning tools. Matt will lead you on a journey to discover how specific tool applications in creating enclosed forms can be approached, executed, and how to develop a sense of etiquette & method to produce higher quality work. We will explore the difference between fact and opinion in woodturning with the purpose of steering individual progress and growth towards a more natural, fluid sensibility and understanding of the tools. This will allow for the development of greater overall confidence as a maker. The focus will be on gaining basic foundations for understanding what good technique is, the importance of developing fine tool control & proper body mechanics at the lathe, the importance of properly shaped and sharpened tools, and most importantly the knowledge of how to practice for the best results. You will leave knowing how to develop your own eye for creating an array of beautifully enclosed vessels and realize the importance in knowing how shape, contour, and grain orientation affects specific tool application.
