In this workshop we will be discussing as well as capturing photographs and learning how we can use photographs to tell stories. Taking photos and putting them together to tell a story will be the end goal. Through the use of digital photography, be it using a smartphone or DSLR camera, we will be learning how to interpret photos as well as create collections of photographs that our audience can interpret. We will be touching on the basic ideas and concepts of photography like color, composition, framing etc. We will also be exploring ideas like diptychs and triptychs to understand some of the best ways to put a collection together as well as tell a story.

Workshops run from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day
Lunch is included for all participants

Level: Beginner and Beyond
Workshop Levels

Definitions of Skill Levels for Workshops

  • Beginner and Beyond: Introductory level course that presents basic knowledge of tools, materials and techniques and is geared towards first timers or those who want to improve and expand their technique. It takes time to build skills.
  • Advanced Beginner and Beyond: Instruction that assumes some familiarity with tools, materials and equipment. Includes reviews and builds on basic skill sets, allows for those with more experience to work at their own pace. Further development of fundamentals, participants have had at least one class or equivalent with professional instruction.
  • Intermediate: Course content that assumes a working knowledge of basic studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored. Participants feel comfortable in the studio setting.
  • Intermediate to Advanced: Course content that requires a proficient working knowledge of studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored in class.
  • Advanced: Assumes proficiency and advanced working knowledge of materials and studio tools and equipment so that the focus is on artistic narrative and/or technical development.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Emmanuel “Manny” Ogbonnya

Emmanuel (known as “Manny”) has worked as a professional photographer and videographer running his production company in New Jersey. He has worked on a multitude of projects ranging from artistic photoshoots to commercial advertising. In the past year Manny has delved deeper into art photography and videography working heavily in Film photography as a medium. A great deal of his work is digital as he is well experienced using photo and video editing software. Manny is currently completing his final year at the New Jersey Institute of Technology studying Digital design.
