In this workshop, participants will learn and practice techniques and design skills essential for creating a stained glass panel. We’ll go over glass cutting, fitting patterns, soldering, glass painting, soldering, and incorporating some fused or slumped elements. Assembly of both rectangular and free-form panels is going to be covered. Participants are encouraged to work on a smaller scale, which will allow them to experiment with different styles and approaches and, by the end of the class, complete some beautiful pieces to take home.

Workshops run from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day
Lunch is included for all participants

Workshop Levels

Definitions of Skill Levels for Workshops

  • Beginner and Beyond: Introductory level course that presents basic knowledge of tools, materials and techniques and is geared towards first timers or those who want to improve and expand their technique. It takes time to build skills.
  • Advanced Beginner and Beyond: Instruction that assumes some familiarity with tools, materials and equipment. Includes reviews and builds on basic skill sets, allows for those with more experience to work at their own pace. Further development of fundamentals, participants have had at least one class or equivalent with professional instruction.
  • Intermediate: Course content that assumes a working knowledge of basic studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored. Participants feel comfortable in the studio setting.
  • Intermediate to Advanced: Course content that requires a proficient working knowledge of studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored in class.
  • Advanced: Assumes proficiency and advanced working knowledge of materials and studio tools and equipment so that the focus is on artistic narrative and/or technical development.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Sasha Zhitneva

Sasha Zhitneva is an award-winning designer and artist who has worked creatively with glass for more than 25 years. She studied in Russia, Spain and in the United States. Her work has been exhibited in SOFA and SCOPE art fairs, and in numerous solo and group shows in the United States and overseas. Primarily known for her “signature style” abstract fused panels, she has amassed a diverse body of work that ranges from stained glass and mixed media to environmental art projects. Aside from her gallery artwork, she has also completed a number of architectural and lighting installations in both stained glass, kiln-formed glass, and recycled materials.
