$775.00

Details Fee Breakdown:
Tuition: $735
Material Fee: $40

In this workshop, you will learn how to transform a quilt that you provide into a Chore-style or Shawl Collar coat! Instructor, Ashley Saville will cover the coat making process from start to finish – customizing the pattern to create the silhouette you would like, things to consider when laying out the pattern of the quilt, construction of the garment (including collar attachment and pockets), and attaching closures if desired (snaps or buttons). Participants of all skill levels are welcome, you just need basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. Ashley will work with each participant at a pace they feel comfortable with to create a piece they will be able to wear for many years to come. Please note that you will supply the quilt to rework into a coat (or be prepared to piece together a quilt during the workshop to work with). Lightweight quilts work best – mid to heavyweight quilts are not recommended.

Workshops run from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day
Lunch is included for all participants

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Ashley Saville

Ashley Saville (she/her) is the owner/founder of ANEMONE, where she has been transforming quilts into wearable art out of her studio in Vermont since 2020. She is a self-taught sewist who is passionate about slow and sustainable fashion, and bringing new life to old things. She thrives on the opportunity to create something beautiful yet functional from something that has lived a previous life so that it can be loved and appreciated in a new and perhaps unexpected way. Her goal is to highlight the beauty in handmade quilts, and especially loves working with those that due to their age and wear (sometimes referred to as “cutters”), might otherwise be relegated to a closet, barn, or worse, to create heirloom pieces to be passed down for many generations to come. She lives in Vermont with her husband, son, and 3 cats.
