Anna Landewe is a lifelong artist with a passion for historical arts and crafts. She has practiced traditional scrimshaw for over a decade as a resident keeper of one of the Hudson River’s oldest lighthouses.
Come learn the maritime art of scrimshaw from start to finish. Explore the origins of the craft and its context within American history, then learn to engrave into a bone-handled pocket knife or pendant of your own design. Techniques will include preparing the surface for etching, developing a design to fit the space, engraving lines with a scribe, and sealing the finished surface. This class is suitable for the complete beginner or beyond. No artistic experience is necessary and all supplies will be provided.
Workshops run from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day
Lunch is included for all participants
