Powercarving Wood: Texture + Sculpture

Details Fee Breakdown:
Tuition: $650
Material Fee: $125

Learn the art and craft of powercarving wood! You will learn key woodcarving skills (surface texturing, relief carving, sculptural carving), basic design and finishing techniques through demonstrations and hands-on work. Participants will use their new skills to choose and work on projects that suit their interests. Skills learned are applicable to adding carving to furniture and woodturned objects, creating durable stamps and press molds for ceramic work, and media beyond wood. The majority of time will be spent using micromotor powercarvers, but we’ll employ bandsaws, angle grinders, sanders and files as necessary. These skills directly apply to the use of larger powercarving tools and can serve as a springboard for large-scale future work. You can expect to create a sculpture carved in the round and multiple samplers of textured, relief-carved, colored designs worthy of hanging on the wall. You are encouraged to bring sketches and project ideas and are welcome to bring wood objects from home to embellish in class. This workshop is suitable for participants of all skill and comfort levels, but fine motor dexterity is required.

*Workshops run from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day
