ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Karina Puente

Karina Puente is a passionate visual artist and the founder of a women-led studio dedicated to evoking joy, focus, and positivity through art. Her journey as a Mexican-American artist in the Pocono Mountains is deeply rooted in the rich cultural heritage of the Santa Ynez Valley in central California, where Karina grew up. Her art, spanning paintings, drawings, and contemporary Papel Picado installations, pays homage to La Sirena and Mexican traditions. With a track record of showcasing her vibrant, large-scale art in prestigious venues such as the Corcoran National Gallery, Weeksville Heritage Center, Columbia University, Miami MoCA, and more, Karina aims to captivate leaders with a flair for design. Inspired by the spirit of invention, Karina employs traditional techniques like hand-dyeing, sewing, carving spirit figures, and watercolor in her garden studio. This creative environment resonates with the legacy of her great-great-grandmother, a revered seamstress who crafted intricate designs for Indigenous communities a century ago. By embracing the artistry of handmade work and infusing it with ancestral reverence, Karina keeps this timeless practice alive.
