Looking for a new textile technique that can be done almost anywhere? This workshop will show you how to create wet felted pieces with nothing more than hot water, a pool noodle, and bubble wrap! You will learn multiple techniques to create imagery and texture using 2-dimensional wet felting. At the end of the weekend, you will leave with at least four samples showcasing different techniques as well as 1-3 finished explorations. You will also leave with all the tools needed to continue wet felting from home.

Workshops run from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day
Lunch is included for all participants

Workshop Levels

Definitions of Skill Levels for Workshops

  • Beginner and Beyond: Introductory level course that presents basic knowledge of tools, materials and techniques and is geared towards first timers or those who want to improve and expand their technique. It takes time to build skills.
  • Advanced Beginner and Beyond: Instruction that assumes some familiarity with tools, materials and equipment. Includes reviews and builds on basic skill sets, allows for those with more experience to work at their own pace. Further development of fundamentals, participants have had at least one class or equivalent with professional instruction.
  • Intermediate: Course content that assumes a working knowledge of basic studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored. Participants feel comfortable in the studio setting.
  • Intermediate to Advanced: Course content that requires a proficient working knowledge of studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored in class.
  • Advanced: Assumes proficiency and advanced working knowledge of materials and studio tools and equipment so that the focus is on artistic narrative and/or technical development.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Erika Hewston

Erika Hewston graduated summa cum laude from Kutztown University with a BFA in Textiles and Material Studies and a BSBA in Business Management in 2018. She is a Pennsylvania based artist focused on weaving textural wall pieces and colorful wearables. In her free time, Erika sells work in fine craft shows such as the American Craft Council events and has shown in solo and group exhibitions at Albright University, GoggleWorks, Kutztown University, and Peters Valley School of Craft.  She is currently working on her Masters Degree in Arts Administration and is the Retail and Gallery Exhibitions Director at the Peters Valley.
