In this workshop we will focus on making settings for fancy shaped stones such as Emerald, Trillion, Marquis, Princess and Pear. This project teaches fabrication and forging skills. You will create a template to measure stone setting circumferences. This can be used for all fancy stone types. You can select which fancy shape you would like to use for your ring. The demo will begin with emerald shape and move on from there.

Workshops run from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day
Lunch is included for all participants

Definitions of Skill Levels for Workshops

  • Beginner and Beyond: Introductory level course that presents basic knowledge of tools, materials and techniques and is geared towards first timers or those who want to improve and expand their technique. It takes time to build skills.
  • Advanced Beginner and Beyond: Instruction that assumes some familiarity with tools, materials and equipment. Includes reviews and builds on basic skill sets, allows for those with more experience to work at their own pace. Further development of fundamentals, participants have had at least one class or equivalent with professional instruction.
  • Intermediate: Course content that assumes a working knowledge of basic studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored. Participants feel comfortable in the studio setting.
  • Intermediate to Advanced: Course content that requires a proficient working knowledge of studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored in class.
  • Advanced: Assumes proficiency and advanced working knowledge of materials and studio tools and equipment so that the focus is on artistic narrative and/or technical development.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Elizabeth Tokoly

Elizabeth Tokoly is a graduate from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. She is the founder of EatMetal Art Jewelry Gallery and Metals Studio. Her work exhibits nationally and can be found at events such as One of a Kind Chicago, Craft NY, New York NOW, and the Peters Valley Craft Fair. She is an educator at Visual Arts Center of Summit, and The Art School of Old Church. She conducts workshops at Peters Valley School of Craft, Snowfarm School of Craft and Touchstone School of Craft. Elizabeth is published in numerous jewelry books and magazines such as MJSA, Metalsmith, British Vogue, Harper Bazaar Thailand, 500 Earrings, and Lapidary Journal. Her Japanese Hexagonal Collar is on the cover of Chain Mail Jewelry Contemporary designs from Classic Techniques, with over 1200 jump rings making up her design.
