Leslie Tharp

Leslie Tharp is a metal artist based in Gainesville, Florida. Her work can be seen in the form of  large-scale public art in locations throughout the U.S., and is often focused on the relationship between us and the wild world around us. Additionally Leslie’s forged work can be seen in private and commercial settings throughout the state. Her passion for metalworking began in 2007 while pursuing her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts Degree at the University of Florida. The interest continued to evolve and eventually grew to include blacksmithing in 2009. The fluid nature of hot worked metal is a driving focus in her aesthetic, and the process of working alongside the fire to experiment with new ideas in real time fuels Leslie with constant curiosity. Beyond her personal passion for metalworking she is also a dedicated teacher of the craft. In Gainesville, Leslie owns and operates [Fe]ver Metal Art Center where she teaches weekly beginner friendly blacksmithing and welding classes. By creating more access to this medium, it is inevitable that a dynamic composition of practitioners will develop. From that evolution, we all benefit.
