Come have fun, experiment, and get a bit messy! This workshop will explore the basics of abstract art and teach fundamental printmaking techniques. We will practice combining different styles, colors and mediums to see what we can create! Young artists will explore a variety of painting techniques and styles to come up with unique abstract art works. Printmaking projects will also be introduced. Hands-on work and fun ice breaker activities in between will create a sense of community throughout the workshop. The goal will be to complete 2-3 projects a day, 10-15 pieces of completed art to take home by the end of the workshop.

Workshop Levels

Definitions of Skill Levels for Workshops

  • Beginner and Beyond: Introductory level course that presents basic knowledge of tools, materials and techniques and is geared towards first timers or those who want to improve and expand their technique. It takes time to build skills.
  • Advanced Beginner and Beyond: Instruction that assumes some familiarity with tools, materials and equipment. Includes reviews and builds on basic skill sets, allows for those with more experience to work at their own pace. Further development of fundamentals, participants have had at least one class or equivalent with professional instruction.
  • Intermediate: Course content that assumes a working knowledge of basic studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored. Participants feel comfortable in the studio setting.
  • Intermediate to Advanced: Course content that requires a proficient working knowledge of studio tools, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the projects and techniques to be explored in class.
  • Advanced: Assumes proficiency and advanced working knowledge of materials and studio tools and equipment so that the focus is on artistic narrative and/or technical development.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Andrea (Aye) David

Andrea David (who also goes by Aye Blouezz or Ms. Aye) is a MultiDisciplinary Artist who also works as an Independent Curator and Manages art spaces. Aye works in a variety of different mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, and other various mixed media. She started off teaching by working as a paint party host for various events, parties and companies. She then also began organizing independent art exhibitions and events with young artists and performers in New York and New Jersey. Throughout this journey, she found her passion of working in the arts with youth and realized how creativity can open minds and influence people in a very liberating way.  In 2021, Aye was a Fellow at Peters Valley where her love for art expanded and since then she has organized and worked on various art productions, managed two art studios and is currently a High School Art Teacher in her hometown of Newark NJ. Aye’s artistic career has allowed her passion for creating art with kids and facilitating safe spaces has grown more and more with every new opportunity that comes along the way.
