Robert F. Lyon received his BA in Studio Art from The College of New Jersey in Trenton and then an MFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. He has taught ceramics, glass and sculpture at the School of Art at Louisiana State University before being named Professor and Chair of the Department of Art at the University of South Carolina where in 2002 he rejoined the faculty to teach sculpture. Robert has been the recipient of many awards and grants, including a N.E.A. Visual Artists Fellowship, a Fellowship from the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art and a Project Grant from the Southeastern College Art Conference. Lyon has been an artist-in-residence at Artpark & Sculpture Space, Inc. in NY, The Banff Center in Canada, the Kohler Company in WI, and the International Turning Exchange in PA. His work has been featured at the Center for Art in Wood, Momentum Gallery, Vero Beach Museum of Art, New Orleans Museum of Art and the Columbia Museum of Art. In 2015 Robert Lyon retired from his university teaching position and is now a Distinguished Professor Emeritus from the University of South Carolina and full-time studio artist.
