Keith Tompkins is an inventor, a motorcyclist, an accomplished woodworker, and most of all, a woodturner. His turning career has taken him as far away as Hawaii and New Zealand, and across most of the U.S., Keith’s goal as a turner is to make his work uniquely his, based on his own tastes, imagination, and life experiences (Even his bottle-stoppers are immediately recognized as his signature work.) This approach seems to have worked; as Keith’s work has been sold world-wide, and has been showcased in over fifty publications. He approaches his teaching in the same manner; his goal is to help students become better turners; he believes improvements in student’s work can be immediate; it does not have to take years of trial and error methods. Keith enjoys showing how even the smallest detail change or design element can make a huge improvement in a student’s work.
