Free Virtual Artist Lecture – Heather Beck

August 25, 2020 by guilda Leave a Comment

This lecture is free to attend but pre-register beforehand to receive the web link in a timely manner. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/4615946560186/WN_H1P9ZqqxSi2IowJ347TCHw
Join us for a special artist lecture with fine jewelry maker Heather Beck, from Easthampton, MA. She was a studio assistant at Peters Valley in 2006. We are thrilled to hear what she has been up to!
“I got the bug for working with my hands from my dad, and fell in love with the alchemical magic that is metalsmithing as an undergraduate at UMass Dartmouth.
My studio work ranges from hand-textured collections inspired by the natural world I love to explore, to custom pieces that symbolize the magic in my client’s lives. I love the stories behind every custom piece, and work with each client to design an object that represents their unique truth. Sometimes it’s a story of love, sometimes it’s a story of achievement, sometimes it’s about needing a talisman that can guide you through a storm. Whatever story brings someone to my studio, I feel honored to hear it and be a part of manifesting the next chapter.”

August 25, 2020 by guilda Leave a Comment

This workshop will be conducted live on Zoom.
Explore dyeing natural wool hues with natural dye materials. This workshop will transform your kitchen into a dye studio to achieve wool that has rich saturated hues. Experiment with Osage and Madder for intense oranges, brilliant yellows and rich reds. Explore garden plants and flowers that you have on hand like marigolds and cosmos. The knowledge you gain will enable you to produce custom pallets for your fiber arts for years to come. Learn best practices for dyeing from Professor Emerita of textile design at the University of Nebraska, Wendy Weiss. Sessions will cover theory and provide time for experimentation.
Instructor: Wendy Weiss
Cost: $50

Join us in a panel discussion focused around the unique experience of preparing for and teaching at a craft school. Main panelists will include some of Peters Valley Staff and invited artists (to be announced shortly).
Making Matters: Fresh Perspectives in Fine Craft is an annual exhibition showcasing the work of the season’s visiting artist instructors and summer artistic staff. The variety of media, styles and techniques included reflect the diversity in the programming offered at Peters Valley. This year it will feature the work of artists who would have taught at Peters Valley had we been able to conduct our summer workshops.
