April 10 & 17 ~ 6:00pm to 7:30pm EST
Come learn to design and make functional and sculptural brooms! This two-part virtual demonstration will start with classic handbrooms and progress to more complex objects including kitchen brooms and double headed sweepers. These traditional broom forms will give you a complete overview of broom making, providing the perfect jumping off point for a deeper dive into technical or sculptural forms. Aspen will demonstrate a variety of forms including the turkey wing, hawks tail, potscrubber, cake tester, cobwebber, and kitchen sweeper. Participants are encouraged to reach out ahead of time to request any specialty forms that they would like covered. Aspen will provide a complete materials list with active links to purchasable broom corn, speciality tools, and binding fiber so you can follow along and continue on your own. Whether you are just starting out or looking for a new way to apply a lifetime of craft experience, broom making is an exciting and accessible craft.
This demonstration will be conducted live on Zoom. Participants will receive an email from Peters Valley at least 48 hours prior that includes a link and a password. Only registered participants will be admitted.
