Saturday, April 15 ~ 11:00am to 12:30pm EST
This hands-on whittling class will give the young students the basic tools to carve three-dimensional animals. Our projects will be realized with a set of carving rasps and will be finished with sandpaper. Using the six different rasps the children will learn the common carving procedures and practice them on basswood animal blanks. Using rasps, which work fast and remarkably well on basswood, is a great way to give children a taste of sculpting in a safe and cut-free environment. If time permits we will talk about additional tools and techniques that will allow the student to form their own self-designed animal blanks and projects. A materials kit containing basswood blanks and sandpapers will be mailed. Students will need to purchase a needle rasp prior to the workshop.
