Public Transportation from NYC is available.

Long Term Work Exchange
2009 Scholarship Program

Peters Valley will offer a very limited number of long term work exchange scholarships during the summer of 2009.

The participants must make a minimum one month commitment and will be assigned a specific job in housekeeping, maintenance, the children’s programs or the kitchen. They will be provided housing and free meals when the kitchen is open. Participants will work two full forty hour weeks.

In the other two weeks they will be allowed to take workshops free of charge (except for lab fee) and work on the Wed and Thurs between workshops and one to two hours on the workshop days.

The Work Exchange Scholarship Program is designed to provide students, who might otherwise not have funds for workshop tuition, with the opportunity to pursue their artistic education by exchanging work hours for workshop tuition.

The program additionally provides Peters Valley with a seasonal work force that provides extra housekeeping, assistants for our children’s programs as well as needed repairs and renovations to our buildings and grounds.

You will be assigned specific projects that are often physically demanding, outdoors, and at heights.  You may be scraping, painting, mowing, hauling garbage...or even washing dishes in the kitchen. You need to be in good shape and full of energy.   You’ll be supervised but will need to be a self-starter and take pride in the work you do.

In exchange, however, you’ll be able to participate in workshops taught by some of the craft world’s leading artists, who are innovators in their fields and great teachers.  And you’ll be staying in one of the most beautiful areas of New Jersey with access to great hiking and summer fun on the Delaware River.

It is expected that work exchange students will work diligently and effectively following the guidelines established by their supervisor. It is also expected that all program participants will behave maturely. If work or behavior is not deemed appropriate, the Executive Director retains the right to terminate participation in the work exchange program.

To apply, return the enclosed application form and your resume by April 1, 2009. After that date please contact the office as to availability.  You must also include a letter of intent, stating why you feel we should award you a work exchange scholarship along with any skills you may have (carpentry, painting, etc.).  In mid-April successful applicants will receive notice of their participation and work schedule.

Should you have questions, please contact Jennifer Brooks at 973-948-5200.

We look forward to receiving your application!
