| Each year Peters Valley makes available, to qualified people , the opportunity to participate
in the workshop summer program by assisting visiting instructors and studio heads.
We need
excited, engaged emerging artists to fill this role. Our instructors are nationally known
professional artists. Assistants will have the opportunity to meet and get to know them and
perhaps to network toward future careers goals.
This could be an invaluable addition toward a well-formed education given the consideration of the variety of courses offered in a each
studio.
The work is hard, the days are long, the pay is nothing.
Housing (during assistantship stay) is provided at no charge, along with meals during the span of workshop weeks (usually Thursday Dinner through Tuesday Lunch according to the longest workshop running that week). Housing provided includes full kitchen privileges and assistants will need to prepare meals themselves when the Dining Hall is closed.
Applications are made to the Studio Department Heads in the following studios:
Heavy emphasis will be placed on applicant's knowledge of studio
operations.
Applications must include the enclosed application form, 10 digital images of
recent work, a resume and 2 letters of recommendation. Also a letter of intent is
required. That letter must state the applicant's objectives for the summer and the outlines of a
potential project that the assistant might hope to complete during class downtime.
You may apply for a time that is shorter than the full summer though the minimum time accepted
will be one month.
There will be opportunities to show and/or sell work in the Peters Valley Sstore & Gallery as well as to take a course as a student in an area of choice
depending on availability.
In the event that a workshop in assistant's studio has been cancelled, the assistant will be asked to
work 12 hours during that week for Peters Valley either in the studio doing tasks
assigned by the department head or helping out in other areas of the valley such as
the office, kitchen, housekeeping, etc.
The influx of Peters Valley summer assistants as one of the most exciting times of the
year.
Years later, Peters Valley hears from past assistants who remember their summer at PV as one of the most exciting and productive
periods of their education.
Application with images, resume, letter, and reccomendations are due to Peters Valley no later than April 1, 2010.
